PCF became aware of the exciting changes taking place at J.S. Jenks Elementary through the Mt. Airy Schools Coalition. Abby Thaker from Mt Airy USA suggested we get in touch with Jenks to offer technology support.
During our meeting with principal Lynskey, it became evident that this was the perfect place for PCF to help with 3D Printing Classes.
Twice a week for a few months, PCF helped teach the 2-hour class in their computer lab until Jenks got their own 3D printer (donated by a parent!) and the teachers knew enough to run the program on their own. Unlike Emlen, the students were a bit older (8th Grade, not 5th) and the classes were held after school as part of their S.T.E.M. curriculum.
PCF wishes teachers Jim Hilburt and Robert Kenyon the best of luck with their new printer and the amazing objects they’ll be creating and have offered to be available for ongoing support if needed. Jenks students are lucky to have them as teachers!
In addition to helping get the 3D Printing program underway, PCF also supplied two of the STEM students who lacked computers at home with Take Home Computers and printers.
